Achieving Concrete Essentials Program (A.C.E) Funding Extended to 2022
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Kahnawa:ke (Ohiarí:ha/June 7, 2021)
Tewatohnhi’saktha is pleased to announce that the Achieving Concrete Essentials (A.C.E) Program funding is now extended to March 31, 2022. This project is funded in part by the Government of Canada under the Skills and Partnership Fund. This extension of funds will allow for Tewatohnhi’saktha to continue delivering services to unemployed and under-employed individuals through the A.C.E program while also helping to keep Tóta Ma’s Café operational for another year.
The A.C.E Program has been administered by Tewatohnhi’saktha since May 2018 with the aim of enhancing individual’s employability while testing the impact of innovative and collaborative social enterprises.
Since the start of the program, Tewatohnhi’saktha has been able to reach 190 participants through 6 young adult cohorts and 3 summer cohorts. The program had a completion rate of 92% with more than half of the participants either becoming employed or returning to school post-A.C.E Program.
In July 2018, Tóta Ma’s Café was established as a social enterprise through the ACE 1 cohort with the goal of providing indigenous owned or produced coffee, food products, and retail items, while also operating within the values of Low Waste, Language & Culture, and Environmental Responsibility. For the past two and a half years, Tóta Ma’s Café has served as a learning ground for young adults to give them the opportunity to enhance their employability skills in a real work environment.
