John Bud Morris retires after a distinguished 25-year long career
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Kahnawà:ke (Onerahtókha/April 5th, 2024) – John Bud Morris is retiring from his position as Chief Operations Officer from Tewatohnhi’saktha. During his tenure, Bud has held various leadership roles, including Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Advisor to the CEO, and has been pivotal in the organization’s success and growth. Bud’s tenure is highlighted by his role in the construction of the $6.7 million Kahnawà:ke Business Complex in 2002 and the $6.8 million Kahnawà:ke Office Complex in 2006 and overseeing the renovation of the Kahnawà:ke Welcome Center.
Bud has been instrumental in forging lucrative partnerships, such as with Mohawk Internet Technologies. His strategic acumen was further displayed through his appointment to the Continent 8 Board of Directors, leading to the establishment of the Isle of Man data center by Continent 8 Technologies PLC. Bud has also focused on community empowerment, spearheading social policy initiatives. In 2016, he transitioned to a Special Advisor role to facilitate organizational transformation and helped launch the Collective Impact movement in Kahnawà:ke.
As Vice President of Des Cultures Wind Farm until April 13th, 2023, Bud played a strategic role in the $70 million Des Cultures Project, culminating in the commissioning of the wind farm in 2022.
His tenure as Chief Operations Officer (COO) from April 1st, 2018, to April 6th, 2024, has been marked by a steadfast commitment to organizational integrity, employee development, and governance excellence, ensuring a smooth transition as he prepares for retirement. Throughout his career, Bud has nurtured a culture of mentorship and support, fostering the growth of Divisional Directors and new leaders within the organization.
Bud’s on-going collaboration with the Tewatohnhi’saktha Board of Directors has served to align community interests with economic prosperity.
