Tewatohnhi’saktha stands with the Kahnawà:ke Education Center opposing Bill 96
IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Kahnawà:ke (Onerahtohkó:wa/May 9, 2022)
Tewatohnhi’saktha strongly opposes the proposed Bill 96 as it will be detriment to our economic future as this bill imposes the French Language on our people; forcing us to interact outside our community in a foreign language.
This law will negatively impact opportunities for our future workforce and business development as all external interactions and training will be in the French Language. Forcing our people to learn French is an effort on Quebec’s part to assimilate us into their society and disregard our rights as First Nations.
“We encourage everyone to attend tonight’s meeting, Monday, May 9th at 7 pm, at the Knights of Columbus; it is important to recognize this Bill has far reaching detrimental effects on our economic future.” said Neil McComber, Executive Director.
