Tota Ma’s Cafe second location to open at the New Kanatahkwèn:ke (Kahnawà:ke Cultural Arts Center)
IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Kahnawà:ke (Seskéha/August 25, 2025) The opportunity to open a second location for Tota Ma’s Café was presented to Tewatohnhi’saktha by the Kanatahkwèn:ke Building Committee. This initiative prompted an expansion of the Social Enterprise component within our Workforce Development programming; Expanding Skills, Opportunity, and Culture through Social Enterprise.
In response, Workforce Development has launched a new Social Enterprise Unit, dedicated to providing innovative approaches to skill development, strategic partnerships, and employment pportunities. To lead this initiative, Drake D’Souza has been hired as the new Social Enterprise Manager, previously working as Workforce Development Coordinator. In his role, Drake will ensure our social initiatives meet both community and business goals, while working collaboratively across departments to drive growth and long-term sustainability.
“I’m proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish in Workforce Development during my time at the organization and in my role as Coordinator. This new Social Enterprise Unit is an exciting opportunity to build on that foundation, combining the heart of training and development with the opportunities a thriving social enterprise can bring. I look forward to creating something we can all be proud of, that provides meaningful opportunities, and that’s valued by both our community and the visitors we welcome,” said Drake.
“The second location will not only provide meaningful work experience for our people,” said Angie Marquis, Director of Workforce Development, “but will also give visitors and tourists from round the world a chance to experience our food, drinks, and culture firsthand. The vision for the new Social Enterprise Unit is to grow beyond this one service industry and foster additional self-sustaining sectors where our community’s skills and talents can thrive.”
“We are very excited for the opportunities the new café will bring to Tewatohnhi’saktha, enabling us to share our products with an emerging client base, and for our clients seeking employment in an exciting, culturally enriched environment,” said Tammy Delaronde, Executive Director.
The new café is scheduled to open in March 2026, alongside the grand opening of the new building. Customer favorites will remain on the menu, joined by new food options designed to serve staff, students, and visitors alike.
