Business Spotlight: Kidz-R-Us
June 9, 2022

Kidz-R-Us Playzone is a Family Fun Center owned by Crystal MacKenzie Deer and Jay Deer located on route 138 next to Wolfco Gas Station. The business opened it’s doors on April 28th, 2019. Despite their primary target being children ages 0-12, Kidz-R-Us boasts they have something for all ages, “Our toddler area is set up for kids who are brand new to crawling, walking and climbing. Most kids over age one (1) can’t wait to get on our giant climbing structure with slides and obstacles throughout. Every age can enjoy our redemption arcades and cash in their tickets for fun prizes. we have three (3) Party rooms located upstairs and offer a variety of party packages” owner Crystal MacKenzie Deer. Kidz-R-Us also has Friday night dance parties from 5:30pm to 7:30pm, where the lights are turned down and the music is turned up with fun disco lights on!

Starting with three (3) employees in 2019 the business currently has grown over the last 3 years and now has seven (7) employees. The business has been very well received not only by Kahnawà:ke but also by families from surrounding communities; there is no telling how much more this business will grow. “Tewatohnhi’saktha has really helped with start-up costs & advertising costs. We were able to attend the business workshop series which offered a lot of helpful information.” MacKenzie Deer said. “Through the Kahnawà:ke Summer Student Employment Program (KSSEP) we found two (2) fantastic, reliable summer employees who we would not have afforded without Tewatohnhi’saktha’s financial aid.” MacKenzie Deer said she would highly recommend Tewatohnhi’saktha’s services to businesses and entrepreneurs throughout the community; Kidz-R-Us is also a Shop Kahnawà:ke participant.

When asked about plans for the future MacKenzie Deer said “We hope to add to our arcades so that we can appeal to older children, preteens and teens.” MacKenzie Deer added “We also have a large vacant “bonus” room that is going to be developed with another type of activity.”

Mackenzie Deer had one last message to her customers “We are grateful to our amazing customers and their continued support and praise. We are lucky to be able to see families enjoying themselves and spending quality time at Kidz R us Playzone, it validates our entire business plan. Thank you!”
