Academic Upgrading
If the professional training that you’re interested in requires high-school credits or a diploma, this program can assist with completing those prerequisites. You have option to choose from full-time or part-time Adult Education courses.
You can apply for this type of training if you need or would like:
- A high school diploma
- Academic upgrading to meet post-secondary entrance requirements
- Academic upgrading to meet vocational training entrance requirements
- Refresher training for admissions test preparation
How To Apply
A 30-day counselling process before approval to any academic upgrading consists of up to 3 meetings with your workforce development counselor. The counselling process is designed to ensure that you are sure of the field you would like to get into BEFORE your tuition is paid. Once you have completed the counselling process and your training has been approved, Workforce Development can provide funding for tuition as well as supplies and equipment required by the institution.
Step 1:
Register at Tewatohnhi’saktha at least 30 days before your training start date, and you will be contacted within 4 business days to schedule an appointment with a counselor. Click to access Tewatohnhi’saktha’s client registration form.
Step 2:
You will meet with your counselor to review and commit to the Academic Counselling Action Plan. You will also use this time to go over some introductions with your counselor and review your registration form. Finally, a review of your resume will be done, or you will receive help on how to make a resume.
Step 3:
The Career Cruising assessment will be completed at your next meeting. This assessment will be used to introduce you to the various careers that best suit you. You will then complete a quick questionnaire on the results of your Career Cruising assessment.
Step 4:
You will be asked to complete a Workforce Development client satisfaction survey to help us assess how our counselling process is working and how our counselors are doing.
Step 5:
Your counselor will present your proposal to the Workforce Development Committee who will then make a decision on your file. Your counselor will then inform you of the decision and next steps.
