The Mentor a Student Intern (MASI) Program helps eligible students gain meaningful, part-time employment experience while continuing their studies.
Through MASI, students work with an employer and workplace mentor to develop practical skills, explore career opportunities, build professional connections, and apply what they are learning in a real workplace.
Tewatohnhi’saktha provides approved employers with a wage subsidy to support the internship.
About MASI
MASI supports part-time internships that complement a student’s education, career interests, or professional-development goals.
Students must identify an eligible employer and develop a proposed internship with them before applying. The student and employer must then submit separate applications and supporting documents for the applicable semester.
Internships are expected to provide meaningful responsibilities, appropriate supervision, regular mentorship, and opportunities for the student to develop relevant workplace skills.
Applying for MASI
Connect and identify an opportunity: A student may approach an eligible employer about a potential internship, or an employer may identify and recruit an eligible student. Both parties must agree to develop the proposed opportunity before applying.
Develop the internship together: Establish the proposed position, duties, schedule, wage, learning opportunities, and mentorship arrangements.
Review the Program Guidelines: Confirm that the student, employer, and proposed internship meet MASI requirements.
Submit both applications: The student and employer must each submit their respective application and required documents by the applicable deadline.
