Tewatohnhi’saktha Launches the “Shop Wellness” for the month of November – Wellness Action Team
November 7, 2022

The Wellness Action Team (WAT) is a committee of community members who represent various organizations in Kahnawà:ke. While the Kahnawà:ke Covid-19 Task Force was formed to support general health and safety needs, it became evident that there was a great need for mental health and wellness services. Therefore, the WAT was formed in April 2021 to address these impacts of the pandemic and provide resources for community members in need. Their role is to promote wholistic wellness, support resilience, help build coping skills by considering big-picture community-level trends and normalize wellness by sharing services, support and collaborating to mitigate the pandemic’s effects.

Each year, Kahnawake Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services coordinates the Spirit of Wellness (SOW) Campaign during the month of November. The month-long initiative is designed to mobilize Kahnawa’kehoro:non to address health and social issue affecting the community. The campaign invites community members, organizations, schools, etc., to come up with and coordinate innovative activities aimed at overall wellness for the mind, body, and spirit.

As a member of the Wellness Action Team, we felt that it was important that Tewatohnhi’saktha participate in KSCS Spirit of Wellness month. We wanted to promote and highlight some wellness businesses/shops within the community throughout the month of November. We’re calling this “Shop Wellness Friday’s”

We’ve connected with 7 businesses, all which market and encourage health and wellness. This includes The Crystal Connection, Kahnawake CrossFit, First Nations Nutrition, Diva’s Den, The Purple Dragonfly, Lotus & Sage, and Sequoia. The initiative entails purchasing a $50.00 Gift Certificate from each of the participating businesses and doing a raffle on the last Friday of the month for community members that visited those shops throughout November.

We’re promoting the businesses on our social media platforms encouraging community members to visit the 7 wellness stores. Each business was given a draw box and tickets to keep track of their customers all which will be collected at the end of month and be entered into the draw. We will be doing the draw on Friday, November 25th, 2022 at 3:00pm Live on the Tewatohnhi’saktha Facebook page.

For your chance to win, visit any of the businesses mentioned above! Happy shopping!
