Kahnawà:ke Economic Summit 2021 a Grand Success

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Kahnawà:ke (Kentenhkó:wa/November 9, 2021)
Tewatohnhi’saktha announces that approximately 73 Kahnawà:ke Entrepreneurs joined the
virtual Summit that took place on Friday, November 5, 2021. The Summit consisted of several
presentations, including the programs and services offered by Tewatohnhi’saktha and a presentation
of the Economic Recovery Plan followed by open discussions with the participants. Participants
also had an opportunity to discuss challenges they face participating in the Regional Economy.

Other topics included the presentation of the draft strategic plan for Economic Development,
Public and Private Partnerships and the possibility of a business coalition to be assembled by
the business community.

Following the Summit, consultants continue to work on the plan for the distribution of $2 Million
in Economic Recovery Funds and we expect this to be ready by early January, 2022 at the latest.
Tewatohnhi’saktha’s Board of Directors will be finalizing the strategic plan now that it has been
presented to the business community.

During the Economic Summit, Chief Ghislain Picard, of the Assembly of First Nations
Quebec-Labrador, invited local businesses to The Grand Economic Circle, a two day event that
invites Indigenous and non-Indigenous businesspeople and elected officials in Quebec to take part
in activities and discussions focused on the increased economic inclusion of Indigenous People.
