FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Kahnawà:ke (Tsothóhrha/December 11, 2023)
Tewatohnhi’saktha increases student allowances significantly to address the dramatic increase in cost of living and to be comparable to the new post-secondary allowances rates.

Previous Monthly Allowance Rates NEW Monthly Allowance rates for 2024
Single rate $870 $1,200
1 Dependant rate $1135 $1,300
2 Dependant rate $1210 $1,480
3 Dependant rate $1285 $1,655
4 Dependant rate $1360 $1,705

“It is necessary that our income security providers in the community have comparable rates and demonstrate the value of careers in the trades as well as those obtained from a post-secondary education path. Skilled trades are in high demand in our community and make up a large percentage of our workforce,” said Angie Marquis, Director of Workforce Development. “Administrative professionals are also in high demand among several community organizations and businesses and these careers serve as an excellent stepping stone for career development,” said Marquis. “Moreover, with 31% of our students being parents, it is important that we provide the support needed for students to pursue training and mitigate any financial stresses.”

These rate increases will come into effect as of January 1, 2024. Current students will see an increase in their allowance cheques dated December 22, 2023. For more information contact a Workforce Development Counsellor.
