Tewatohnhi’saktha receives $1.4 Million dollar funding from the Government of Canada for new 4-year program “Builders of the Future”

IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Kahnawà:ke (Ohiarihkó:wa/July 31, 2023)
Tewatohnhi’saktha, in partnership with the First Nations Regional Adult Education Center, and the New Frontiers and Lester B. Pearson School Boards, will launch the first cohort of the NEW program “Builders of the Future” in response to the demand for certified carpenters, electricians and plumbers. This project is funded in part by the Government of Canada’s Skills and Partnership Fund.

The first cohort will begin in the Fall of 2023, and each program will be 6-months long. Students will gain approximately 600 hours of study followed by potential work placements in these fields.

“We are proud to launch this new program to fill the need for certified professionals in these particular fields. Once certified, these professionals will have no problem obtaining work in or around our community and have the potential to open new independent businesses”, said Angie
Marquis, Director of Workforce Development.

This 4-year program will provide students with a monthly allowance, childcare costs and equipment/toolkits will be provided, along with any other relevant costs associated with studying. We encourage community who are serious about obtaining certification in these fields to apply,
as there are limited spots available and we are seeking to have 100% successful completion of the program.

“We will be screening potential candidates to join the program and look forward to providing this exciting opportunity to our community. Program applications are now available online at www.tewa.ca/buildersofthefuture and the deadline to apply is August 18” said Katsistohkwí:io Jacco, Interim Workforce Development Program Manager.
